MATV

Master Antenna Television or M.A.T.V systems differ from IRS by only offering Freeview, FM and DAB radio. For those projects where giving residents the optimum choice of satellite TV is not a prime objective – such as affordable housing, prisons, Sheltered accomodation and hospitals, this can result in a cost saving for the client.

Many MATV systems in use today are more than 35-years old and may not be suitable for carrying digital television signals. A site survey may be required to asess the current state of the system.

In a typical modern MATV system the aerial is a conventional UHF TV aerial, receiving both analogue and digital TV signals. These signals are then processed and a distribution network delivers all television signals to a socket at each TV point. There can be more than one outlet per dwelling if specified.

SMATV

Satellite Master Antenna Television or S.M.A.T.V systems are often used in environments where the number and type of channels available needs to be controlled, i.e. care homes, offices, prisons, hospitals, student accomodation, holiday resorts and hotels.

A head-end unit is installed to receive the signals from a digital aerial, satellite dish or in some cases both. This unit processes the signals into the pre-selected range of channels and distributes them to each point. Clients can then access selected satellite or Freeview channels independently of each other. There is no need for a seperate receiver to be used at each point eihter,

There are many advantages to SMATV system, there may be the need for foreign satellite reception were there is multi langages required.

The client may not want seperate receivers installed at each TV point , so no worries over loosing remote controls or replacements.

IRS SYSTEMS

Residential areas need not be littered with unsightly aerials and satellite dishes - integrated reception systems remove the need for individual aerials and satellites that can ruin the look of a building.

Incorporating digital terrestrial, digital radio and satellite signals into one system, delivered down one cable into each home means we can deliver a complete reception system to every resident. This can include sky + and sky HD.

Applications for the range of TV / AV over CAT5 products continue to grow as CAT5e/6 cabling becomes more recognised as the fourth utility alongside power, heat and light in almost all commercial, domestic and leisure building services.

All Scion distribution systems are provided with free software for channel forcing and baring. This allows for a complete TV distribution system to be installed in a central location as you would with an RF system. Then allocate channels to chosen areas of the building. It is also a feature of the Scion distribution system to provide infrared pass through for controling the headend equipment from your selected areas.

This is very useful in boardrooms were presentors need control of satellite decoders, DVD's and VCR's. They simply use the handset supplied with the equipment and control the set top box as if it was situated in the same room. This can also apply to reception areas and canteen facilities.

DIGITAL SINAGE

Digital Signage or out of home advertising is a fast growing industry, with many large retail outlets installing their own display infrastructure to enable them to advertise local and global products in store. This can range from a simple number of screens to complete roll out to hundreds of stores with thousands of screens.

It's not just retail outlets that use digital signage, typical other uses for this type of application has been installed in Airports, Bus stations, Train stations and governmental buildings for the display of critical information and advertising.

Issues arise when the need to get the information from the Players/PC’s over great distances from a central control room to the display screens, of which there can be many in any one location. Careful consideration needs to be taken when planning a system, what type of information needs to be displayed in each zone, what size of screen would be applicable for that zone. How is the audio if any going to be delivered and what are the distances from the server location to the screens.
